Announcing Public Preview of Personal Desktop Autoscale on Azure Virtual Desktop
If you've been hoping to try out the new Personal Desktop Autoscale on Azure Virtual Desktop - now's your chance!
Read this article to find out how to access and use this new capability.
What is Personal Desktop Autoscale?
Personal Desktop Autoscale is a native scaling solution that automatically manages session host virtual machines based on user activity. It can start VMs according to a predefined schedule or based on user session states, such as log off or disconnect. This feature helps save costs by shutting down idle session hosts while ensuring availability when needed.
How do I enable Personal Desktop Autoscale?
To enable Personal Desktop Autoscale, you need to create a personal scaling plan through the Azure portal. You can define settings such as whether to start the VM on connection and what action to take after a user session disconnects or logs off for a specified period. This can be configured across four phases in a day, and you can assign the scaling plan to one or more personal host pools.
Is there an additional cost for Personal Desktop Autoscale?
No, Personal Desktop Autoscale is included as part of the Azure Virtual Desktop service and does not incur any additional costs, similar to the pooled scaling plans that were introduced previously.
